The Challenge
A Premium Boardroom That Couldn’t Support Meetings
Emerson’s JAFZA boardroom featured floor-to-ceiling glass on two sides, a gypsum coffered ceiling, and polished hard-surface flooring — a specification common to premium corporate interiors across Dubai. The result was a reverberation time significantly above the target for a conferencing environment.
The installed AV system — designed for high-performance hybrid meetings — was unable to compensate for the room’s acoustic profile. Remote participants on video calls reported difficulty understanding speech. In-room participants experienced listener fatigue during extended meetings.
The Solution
A Premium Boardroom That Couldn’t Support Meetings
ilent Sands designed a treatment strategy using fabric-wrapped acoustic panels on the primary wall surfaces and ceiling cloud elements positioned above the conference table. All materials were specified in fabrics selected to complement Emerson’s existing interior design palette.
The treatment targeted the key reflection zones — rear wall, primary speaker wall, and ceiling above the table — achieving a significant RT60 reduction without altering the visual quality of the space.
